UK plastics pact

According to WRAP over 70% of the UK population say that plastic is an important issue to them.
What is your business doing to address this? Across all industries we are seeing companies taking action to reduce their use of plastic, and increase recycling and reuse. In the UK, the Plastics Pact (led by WRAP) has accelerated action over the last 5 years, with Pact members responsible for over 75% of all consumer plastic packaging sold in the UK 😮
The Pact was established to bring together businesses to tackle issues sounding plastic packaging. It set out four ambitious targets for 2025 that will require systemic change in order to be achieved.
THE GOOD NEWS
The UK Plastic Pact Annual Report for 2022-23 highlights the significant steps forward that have been made through collaboration and innovation towards achieving the four goals, with highlights including:
♻️ Recycled content levels have tripled since 2018 to 24%
🏠 The weight of household plastic packaging has reduced by 8%
📦 71% of plastic packaging is recyclable
🥤 99.6% reduction in single-use problematic plastic items
🚮 55% of plastic packaging is effectively recycled or composted (with just over half recycled in the UK)
THE CHALLENGE AHEAD
As the report acknowledges, there’s a long way to go and urgent action is still required, with a need for stronger policy and further action from businesses. Your business can support by:
