Impact reporting

8 January 2024

As we kick-off 2024 here’s some top tips to remember when writing sustainability or impact reports.

📝 Use clear language, avoid jargon and too many technical terms – it’s important that your stakeholders understand what you’re saying

🎯 Report on what matters to your business and stakeholders, both now and into the future – focus your reporting on your material topics

⚖️ Talk about the good and the bad – present an authentic, balanced view on your performance, including your challenges as well as any gaps in your current approach

🏆 Prioritise reporting on outcomes over activities and outputs – doing so makes your reporting more meaningful by demonstrating how you have created an impact

✨ Remember to be you! Make sure your reporting reflects who you are as a brand, and is candid and authentic – talk about your journey, and acknowledge where you don’t have the answers

🔍 Back up your claims – avoid making claims that can’t be substantiated with evidence so that your report will stand up to any external or internal scrutiny

🔮 Address current and emerging issues – often businesses get stuck in the trap of focusing only on past performance, but its’ equally important to talk about what’s planned for the future and any areas where you know you need to do more work
