The Challenge
With its people-first approach, Coach House had already taken meaningful steps to integrate sustainability across key areas of the business. To amplify their impact, however, they recognised the need for a more holistic approach, one that embedded sustainability more deeply within their company values and became an integral part of how they work.
They approached the team at B·ABLE for support in shaping a long-term vision and strategy, creating a clear roadmap for success, and engaging and educating teams to secure company-wide alignment.
As leaders in the wholesale furniture industry, they also understood the importance of leading by example. They required a robust strategy that would strengthen internal practices while positioning them as a sustainability leader within their sector.
The Solution
Our work with Coach House commenced with a comprehensive ESG review, assessing all aspects of their operations and value chain. We engaged key stakeholders across the business to build a clear understanding of existing practices and the issues that mattered most. Alongside this, we facilitated an ambitions workshop with the senior leadership team and other team members helping to further pinpoint the most material topics for Coach House and to shape their long-term vision for impact. Looking outward, the review also included detailed peer and industry benchmarking to ensure Coach House remained aligned with wider industry practices and expectations.
Building on the insights from the first phase, we developed Coach House’s first sustainability strategy, articulating a clear vision, defining key pillars and focus areas, and setting measurable goals. To ensure implementation was practical and achievable, we created a detailed 12-month action plan with assigned accountability across the business, providing clarity on what needed to be done, by whom, and when.
With no dedicated in-house sustainability function, employee engagement and education were vital to success. We worked with the leadership team and representatives from across departments to build understanding and foster a sense of ownership. These sessions equipped teams with the knowledge and confidence to embed sustainable practices into everyday decision-making, ensuring the strategy could be implemented effectively across the organisation.
The Results
Coach House now has a clear sustainability strategy that provides direction and focus, underpinned by measurable goals and company-wide ownership. The 12-month action plan has provided structure and clarity, helping to turn ambition into tangible steps. The strategy reflects their identity as a family business while aligning with broader commercial objectives and values. With employees engaged and empowered, and leadership committed to the long-term vision, Coach House is firmly on the path to becoming a sector leader in sustainability.
Our partnership continues as we provide coaching and ongoing implementation support, helping the business embed sustainability across operations and achieve meaningful impact.
